Get to know salon owner, Nikki DeMaria of
Tease Hair Beauty Bar in Katonah, New York.
She has been a stylist for 19 years and owned her own salon for 6.
A little more about Nikki:
“I'm 37 years old, I am a big dog person. I have a 14 year old Boston terrier/Pug mix named Kona and I bring him everywhere with me. I grew up in Yorktown Heights and I am super close with my family. My parents are my biggest supporters. I have 2 sisters, 2 amazing brother-in- laws and 2 nephews (plus one on the way) who are my whole world.
I still have the same group of girlfriends since highschool, (some even [from] elementary school) which is pretty amazing. I'm a total summer girl and I love being at the beach. I've been doing hair for almost 20 years and I'm so glad to finally have found an amazing group of stylists who make being a salon owner such an incredible experience."
What made you open a salon?
I wanted to have a space that everyone felt welcome. Where a person would walk in the doors and instantly feel as if they we're walking into their best friend's house. A space they could come to get their hair done, have a lot of fun and leave feeling good about themselves.
What made you pursue the beauty industry and what is your favorite part?
I love the beauty industry because there are so many ways to express yourself, and my favorite part is helping people do just that!
What inspires you?
I'm inspired by a lot of things. One thing in particular that inspires me is seeing strong, independent people who express themselves freely. Not worried about what others will say or think.”

What would you tell your younger self?
Don't be in such a hurry to become an adult and don't sweat the small stuff!
What have been your "keys to success?"
Staying true to myself would be number one. Finding "my" people, who are like minded and have the same passion I do and hard work and dedication. It really does pay off in the end!
